Linden confirms login restrictions

SECOND LIFE, Jun 19 (Reuters) - Linden Lab said on Thursday it briefly restricted access to Second Life to users with paid accounts, but it has no plans to do so again in the future.
“On June 12th, we intentionally restricted logins for approximately seven minutes due to grid problems,” the company said in a statement to Reuters.
“We have reviewed the use cases for this capability, and have determined that it no longer serves the purpose for which it was designed. As such, we do not intend to exercise this capability again in the foreseeable future,” the statement continued.
The outage was reported last week by the Second Life Herald, which captured a screenshot of the message displayed to free accounts upon logging into Second Life.
In a post on Linden’s official blog last year, the company reserved the right to restrict access to “only those Second Life Residents who have transacted with Linden Lab either by being a premium account holder, owning land, or purchasing currency on the LindeX.”
