SECOND LIFE, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Virtual world development firm Millions of Us said on Thursday it has sold a undisclosed stake to a unit of Omnicom Group, the world’s biggest advertising services company.
Millions of Us, which has worked with clients including Microsoft and Toyota, said in a statement the stake was purchased by Omnicom unit Diversified Agency Services.
Media companies and venture capital firms have been buying into several so-called metaverse service companies in recent months, including CBS’ investment in The Electric Sheep Company. CBS will feature Second Life later this month in an episode of CSI:NY.
Recently HBO purchased a short-form documentary shot entirely within Second Life, created by Douglas Gayeton, who now works for Millions of Us.
The bulk of Millions of Us projects have been in Second Life, including a recent project for the CW Network’s “Gossip Girl,” but the firm has also created projects in the virtual worlds Gaia Online and Zwinky.
