Second Life developers report drop in revenue, projects

SECOND LIFE, July 11 (Reuters) - Second Life developers are working on fewer projects and earning less revenue than they were in February, according to a Linden Lab survey.
The survey queried the 190 companies and individuals listed on Linden Lab’s Developer Directory, but the response rate was only 29 percent. It was uncertain whether the firms that responded were representative of the whole, or if they were the same firms who responded five months ago.
The 55 firms who responded reported a total of 307 projects in the pipeline, compared with the 380 projects reported by 32 firms in February.
“While other measures are up significantly, number of projects is not,” Glenn Linden said in a blog post. “In general, larger companies (by employees) have more projects, but there is less correlation than in February.”
The companies estimated their total revenue for the second quarter was US$5 million, from US$6.7 million in the first quarter. Estimated revenue per project was US$16,400, down from US$17,600.
