Nasdaq CEO Bob Greifeld said on Tuesday he could imagine opening up a stock exchange in Second Life.

“We have actually contemplated it,” he said. “The first life is hard enough, but we’re fans of it and we pay attention to it and we have thought about it.”

But when pressed on a timeframe, Greifeld put on the brakes: “Now you’re going too far. It’s a possibility — it’s interesting.”

Speaking at the Reuters Exchanges and Trading Summit in New York, the Nasdaq boss also said he did not believe this alternative world had had matured enough to have a viable economy of its own.

“I think it’s not quite there yet,” he said.
