Housekeeping Part 1: Reuters SL Display update
By Adam Reuters
Do you have a Reuters Floor or Wall Display on your land?
Since last week, some Reuters Floor and Wall Displays in Second Life
have stopped fetching the most recent headlines. This is a bug that may eventually affect all such displays. As a result, we’ve released an update to our displays. The latest version is 2.0.1.
All Reuters displays periodically check for new versions and will
alert you when a new version becomes available. If you don’t want to wait, you can get a new box from the Reuters island or manually replace your display:
1. Click the Display Box Dispenser Button on your display — it’s the
rectangular button with a blue background and orange text that says “Click here to receive your own free personal news HUD and display from Reuters.”
2. Doing this should bring up a dialog box asking if you would like
to keep or discard the “[Reuters] News Displays 2.0.1, Boxed” object,
or to mute the “[Reuters] Vendor” object. Click on the “Keep” button.
3. Now, check the “Objects” folder in your inventory for a box called
“[Reuters] News Displays 2.0.1, Boxed” and drag this box out of your
inventory into the main Second Life viewer window.
4. This should “rez” the box which will unpack it automatically for
you. (Note that if you are on land where you do not have permission
to rez objects, nothing will happen. You will need to unpack the box
on land where you can rez objects.)
5. If everything worked, you should have a new folder in your
inventory called “[Reuters] News Displays, ver 2.0.1″. You can now
delete the old display and replace it with the new version of the
appropriate display from within the “[Reuters] News Displays, ver
2.0.1″ folder. Also be sure to delete any obsolete versions that might be lingering in your inventory.
