SECOND LIFE, March 7 (Reuters) - Growth in the number of Second Life residents making more than US$5,000 a month rebounded in February after slowing to a crawl in January, according to newly released Linden Lab data.

Despite the shorter month, the total number of residents with positive cash flow showed continued growth, up 17.2 percent to 25,365. The number of residents with monthly profits of more than US$5,000 was up 19.6 percent to 116, compared with a 7.8 percent increase in the previous month.

The total number of registered avatars surpassed 4 million in February, although regular users are estimated to be only about a tenth of that figure. The cash-flow statistic consolidates multiple avatar names that are used by a single user, and excludes businesses that operate currency exchanges as well as those that operate via third-party services such as PayPal.

Similar to previous months, more than half of the positive cash-flow residents earned less than US$10 a month, and more than 90 percent earned less than US$200.

Residents sold 61,881,184 square meters of land in February, up from 46,087,808 in January. The average price declined to L$11.29 per square meter from L$12.30.
