SECOND LIFE, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Well-known Second Life fashion retailers should consider raising their prices because consumers are willing to pay more for popular brands, according to a market research survey of the women’s clothing sector.
The survey, carried out by Market Truths Limited, found that Nyte’N'Day, Dazzle and Pixel Dolls were the most well-known retail brands, followed by Blaze, Awesome Designs, Mischief, Simone, Bare Rose and DE Designs, according to a survey of 105 people drawn from Market Truth’s research panel.
Study author Mary Ellen Gordon (Pebbles Hannya in Second Life) said panel members had been in Second Life an average of 170 days, with an average real-life age of 33 years. Market Truths has a Second Life office in Sylvina.
With an increase in Second Life residents using the virtual world for work as well as recreation, women’s business suits were a category that respondents would like to buy but that is currently unavailable, presenting an untapped opportunity for existing or new Second Life clothing stores.
Eighty-five percent of the respondents spent more than L$250 a month on clothing, with 24 percent spending more than L$1,000 and 25 percent spending more than L$2,000. The group expected prices of L$100 for skirts, pants and tops, and L$150 for jackets.
“Second Life clothing stores and designers may want to consider adjusting their pricing policies based on the result of the survey,” Gordon wrote in the study.
